چکیده
This paper studies the variation diminishing property of k-positive linear time-invariant (LTI) systems, which diminish number sign changes (variation) from input to output, if is at most k?1. We characterize this for discrete-time Toeplitz and Hankel operators finite-dimensional causal systems. Our main result that these have a dominant approximation in form series or parallel interconnections k first order positive shown by expressing k-positivity LTI system as external positivity (that is, 1-positivity) compound characterization generalizes well known properties externally systems (k=1) totally (k=?; also relaxation case operator). All results readily extend continuous-time considering sampled impulse responses.

متن کاملAN ALGORITHM FOR FINDING THE STABILITY OF LINEAR TIME-INVARIANT SYSTEMS
The purpose of this paper is to show that the ideas and techniques of the classical methods of finding stability, such as the criteria of Leonhard and Nyquist, can be used to derive simple algorithm to verify stability. This is enhanced by evaluating the argument of the characteristic equation of a linear system in the neighbourhood of the origin of the complex plane along the imaginary axis
متن کاملPassive linear discrete time-invariant systems
We begin by discussing linear discrete time-invariant i/s/o (input/state/output) systems that satisfy certain ‘energy’ inequalities. These inequalities involve a quadratic storage function in the state space induced by a positive self-adjoint operator H that may be unbounded and have an unbounded inverse, and also a quadratic supply rate in the combined i/o (input/output) space. The three most ...
متن کاملStructural Controllability of Linear Time-invariant Systems
One version of the concept of structural controllability defined for single-input systems by Lin and subsequently generalized to multi-input systems by others, states that a parameterized matrix pair (A,B) whose nonzero entries are distinct parameters, is structurally controllable if values can be assigned to the parameters which cause the resulting matrix pair to be controllable. In this paper...
